It’s come to my attention some don’t understand what is meant when displays increase resolution. Size is quite easy, a 50in TV is bigger than a 32in TV. Display resolution something somewhat more confusing. Over the years some have become familiar with the terms such as 720P and 1080P. But now products are releasing today that have higher resolutions than that (such as 4K TVs and Apple’s Retina Macbook Pro). This is as big of a selling point as size. I could explain it in words but I think that can get lost in translation. Pictures are better:
On the left is my website at 1920×1080 (1080P HD). On the right is my website at 2700×1600.
On the left is my desktop wallpaper in 1920×1080 (1080P HD). On the right is the same wallpaper at 2700×1600.
Now I didn’t have a monitor (or TV) that could display 2700×1600. It took me 3 monitors to get there:
On the left is a 1080P TV. On the right are 3 monitors that display 1600×900 individually that I teamed together.
Keep this in mind 4K LEDs and the 15in Retina Macbook Pro have resolutions larger (4K far larger!) than what I have shown here. On a single screen!
In conclusion:
I hope that this helps you understand the difference in resolutions. Larger resolutions can display more content. Most of society limits this to video content. In essence 1080P is just the beginning and will be something in the past.
